MOSTRA PERMANENTE COSIMO CARLUCCI
Le opere di Cosimo Carlucci (1919/1987) di origini brindisine, sono esposte al primo piano del Museo MUST come mostra permanente. Per Carlucci, materia, forma, spazio e luce si tramutarono in opere plastiche, realizzate in un primo momento con il legno (1960-1963), sostituito poi da materiali della civiltà tecnologica di produzione industriale come il rame, l’ottone, le lamine metalliche lucenti.
Carlucci in un «gioco complesso di immagini virtuali», per usare le sue parole, assemblava diversi elementi geometrici ripetuti, producendo opere, dalle più contenute alle grandi dimensioni, di suggestione ottico dinamica. Le strutture lumino-cinetiche, come le definì Filiberto Menna, sono costituite da successioni seriali di unità modulari in rapporto con lo spazio circostante, assumendo valore architettonico (urbascultura), che coinvolge attivamente la lettura dello spettatore.
Di particolare interesse sono le le Exuviae. La proposizione figurativa designa la ripresa di modelli antropomorfici, orientati alla poetica del frammento e al rimando simbolico, nel recupero di una materia nobile e duratura come il bronzo.

MOSTRA PERMANENTE: Il patrimonio storico artistico del Comune di Lecce.
Il Must - Museo Storico della Città di Lecce- raccoglie la naturale eredità del ruolo storico che ha avuto la città nel corso del tempo: è testimonianza storica e consacrazione di una memoria collettiva e, allo stesso tempo, è volontà di promuovere e mettere in valore l’operato artistico di personalità legate al territorio jonico-salentino attive nel dibattito culturale contemporaneo delle arti visive in contesti sub-regionali, nazionali ed internazionali, alle quali è stata riservata una rilevante letteratura critica del tempo.
La raccolta esposta al Must è una selezione tra le oltre 350 opere, tra dipinti, grafiche, sculture e fotografie, costituenti il patrimonio artistico civico e rappresenta una finestra aperta sulla cultura e sulle arti figurative nel territorio della Terra d'Otranto tra il XIX e il XX secolo e oltre.
Doveroso il tributo reso nella prima sala al pittore leccese Oronzo Tiso (1726 - 1800) che, come evidenziava Antonio Cassiano, è “l’artista che più di tutti aveva rappresentato il prolungamento, sembrava senza fine, del gusto barocco”. I suoi lavori pittorici all’interno del percorso espositivo rappresentano l'anello di congiunzione tra la fine del XVIII e le produzioni artistiche del XIX secolo.
La maggior parte delle opere ordinate nel MUST sono infatti databili tra la metà dell’800 e il secondo dopoguerra: a partire da quelle di Gioacchino Toma (1836 - 1891), protagonista della pittura italiana del secondo Ottocento, attraverso i quadri dei paesaggisti Stanislao Sidoti (1837-1924) e Giuseppe Casciaro (1863- 1941), le sculture di Antonio Bortone (1844 - 1938), Oronzo Gargiulo (1869-1917), e le opere di altri pittori come Raffaele Maccagnani (1841- 1925), Giuseppe Salvatore Forcignanò (1862- 1919), Agesilao Flora (1863 - 1952), Michele Palumbo (1874- 1949), Vincenzo Ciardo (1894- 1970), Geremia Re (1894 - 1950) e Temistocle De Vitis (1904 -1973). Il percorso tra le sale prosegue con le opere di personalità attive nel secondo Novecento, tra cui Nullo D'Amato (1913- 1982), il poeta visivo Enzo Miglietta (1928- 2018) e alcuni artisti viventi quali Pietro Guida (1921), Sandro Greco (1928), Antonio Massari (1932) e Salvatore Spedicato (1939).

COSIMO CARLUCCI’S PERMANENT EXHIBITION
Cosimo Carlucci’s works (1919 - 1987) are exhibited on the first floor of the MUST Museum as a permanent exhibition. According to Carlucci, who was from Brindisi, matter, form, space and light turned into plastic works created, at first, with wood (1960-1963), which was then replaced by the technological culture materials of industrial manufacturing such as copper, brass, metallic foils.
Carlucci would put together - in his own words - in a «complex game of virtual images» different repeating geometric elements, creating works with optico-dynamic suggestions of all dimensions. The lumino-kinetic structures, as Filiberto Menna described them, are made of serial successions of modular units in relation to the surrounding space, taking on an architectural role (urbascultura) which actively involves the viewer.
The Exuviae are particularly interesting sculptures. Their shape depicts the return of anthropomorphic patterns, oriented towards the poetics of fragment and symbolic reference, through the retrieval of a noble and lasting material like bronze.

PERMANENT EXHIBITION: Lecce’s historical and artistic heritage
The Historical Museum of Lecce (MUST) collects the natural legacy of the city historical role over the course of time. The museum represents the historical evidence and identification of a collective memory and, at the same time, it stands for the support of people’s artistic works who are linked to the jonico-salentino territory and who are active in the contemporary cultural debate on visual arts in sub-regional, national and international contexts. A significant portion of the critical literature of the time is dedicated to these artists.
At the Must, visitors can find over 350 works of art like paintings, sculptures, graphics and photographs, which constitute Lecce’s artistic heritage giving access to the Terra d’Otranto’s culture and fine arts between the 18th and 19th centuries and more.
It was important to pay due tribute, in the first room of the museum, to painter Oronzo Tiso (1726 – 1800) from Lecce, who is, in the words of Antonio Cassiano, «the artist who, more than anyone, represented the continuation of the Barocco, which seemed to be endless». His paintings in the exhibition are the link between the end of the 18th century and the artistic productions from the 19th century. Thus, most works of art in the MUST date back to the mid-19th century and the post-Second World War: Gioacchino Toma’s (1836 – 1891) paintings, who was one of the leading personalities of Italy’s painting in the second half of the 19th century, Stanislao Sidoti’s (1837 – 1924) and Giuseppe Casciaro’s (1863 – 1941) pictures, Antonio Bortone’s (1844 – 1938), Oronzo Gargiulo’s (1869 – 1917) sculptures, and other painters’ works such as Raffaele Maccagnani (1841- 1925), Giuseppe Salvatore Forcignanò (1862- 1919), Agesilao Flora (1863 - 1952), Michele Palumbo (1874- 1949), Vincenzo Ciardo (1894- 1970), Geremia Re (1894 - 1950) e Temistocle De Vitis (1904 -1973).
